Green Issues

Inevitably the drive to reduce carbon emissions has led to a raft of legislation affecting businesses.

Hospitality Law Green Issues

The Energy Bill is steering businesses towards becoming more energy efficient, introducing the ‘Green Deal’ to assist with finance in improvements in properties to meet this aim.

Other initiatives include the introduction of the Feed-in Tariff Scheme in 2010 with the aim of opening up low-carbon electricity generation (however controversial that has been) and the CRC Energy Scheme, a carbon emissions trading scheme which applies to large businesses, such as drinks manufacturers.

Further changes to the law mean that from 2018 landlords will not be able to rent out a commercial property with an EPC of lower than E – which is something you need to think about if you are a brewer with a tenanted pub estate.
