New rules for Lockdown 2
During the Spring lockdown pubs, cafes and restaurants were allowed to sell food and drink to takeaway. But this time around the Government initially decided that takeaway alcohol would not be permitted during lockdown 2.
Delivery or click and collect permitted
However, in a welcome U turn the Government announced last week that pubs and restaurants will be allowed to sell food and alcohol provided it is pre-ordered and for delivery or click and collect.
Food and non-alcoholic drink
As ever the Regulations can be slightly confusing but if you’re selling food and drink (non – alcoholic) the good news is your customers can enter the premises to collect between 05:00 – 22:00. Between 22:00 – 05:00 you are still permitted to sell food and drink but:
- Orders must be placed in advance online, by phone or text;
- Orders can be delivered or collected;
- Customers must not enter your premises;
- Drive through (pre-ordered) is permitted where alcohol is passed to the customer without them leaving their car.
Customers should be prevented from congregating outside the premises when collecting their order.
Sales of alcohol
If you want to sell alcohol you can do so in line with your existing Premises Licence as long as:
- Orders are placed in advance online, by phone or text;
- Orders are delivered or collected;
- Customers do not enter your premises;
- Drive through (pre-ordered) is permitted where alcohol is passed to the customer without them leaving their car.
Exemption for off-licences
Off – licences are exempt so Brewery shops can continue to operate as off-licenses selling bottled and canned beer without the need to pre-order.
